Vehicle Information
Suzuki RM250 Dirt Bike (1976-2008)
The Suzuki RM250, an iconic two-stroke motocross machine, was produced from 1976 until 2008, when its manufacturing ceased due to declining demand for two-stroke motorcycles. Throughout its production run, the RM250 primarily existed as a pure motocross model, featuring a consistent engine displacement ranging from 246cc to 249cc. The RM250 underwent numerous significant evolutions. As early as 1981, it incorporated the "Full Floater" mono-shock system, followed in 1982 by the adoption of liquid cooling, a redesigned frame, and reduced weight. A major overhaul in 1989 introduced a case-reed motor and inverted forks. In 2001, a completely redesigned engine and chassis were launched, aiming for increased power and weight reduction. These changes ensured its continuous competitiveness. There was no single major generation break that would render parts incompatible over long periods, but rather a continuous evolution. The RMX250, an off-road version, and a limited-run Paul Edmondson Replica in 2007, were distinct variants. Q: Is my Suzuki RM250 model compatible with these parts?
A: To ensure compatibility, please use our year and edition selector at the top of the page.
Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Transmission Oil | Every 5 to 15 hours, depending on riding style | Transmission oil is separate from engine oil in two-stroke engines and does not have a conventional oil filter. It lubricates the gearbox and clutch. |
| Engine Oil Filter | Not applicable | The RM250's two-stroke engines do not use a conventional replaceable engine oil filter. Maintenance focuses on replacing the transmission oil. |
| Drive Belt | Not applicable | The Suzuki RM250 uses a drive chain for power transmission to the rear wheel, not a belt. |
| Spark Plug | Inspect and replace as needed | Inspect, clean, adjust, and lubricate or replace the spark plug as needed to ensure optimal performance. |
| Air Filter | Every 5 to 15 hours (more frequently in dusty or aggressive conditions) | The air filter is crucial for engine performance and requires frequent cleaning or replacement, especially in dusty or wet conditions. |
| Coolant | Annually | Inspection of the cooling system, replacement of coolant and radiator hoses. |
