The Arctic Cat EXT 440, produced from 1971 to 1973, was a high-performance snowmobile primarily designed for racing. It was powered by Kawasaki free-air engines. The EXT series itself marked a significant shift in 1971, being the first year for consumer-available models, building on a 1970 factory race program. These snowmobiles were based on the Puma short chassis. The 1971 EXT Special 440 trim was notable for its lightweight construction, including an aluminum bulkhead and factory crossover tuned pipes.
