Vehicle Information
KTM 600 MX Dirt Bike (1988-1991)
The KTM 600 MX series, produced from 1988 to 1991, represents a pivotal era for KTM with the introduction of its innovative LC4 engine. These off-road motorcycles, including motocross and enduro variants, were powered by a robust 553cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled engine featuring a single overhead camshaft and 4 valves. This engine consistently delivered around 48 to 50 horsepower at 7000 rpm across the model years. The most significant development during this period was the debut of KTM's in-house developed 600 LC4 engine in 1988. While there wasn't a traditional mid-cycle generation change for the engine, KTM continuously refined the platform. Early LC4 models saw "teething problems" addressed, and chassis improvements, including White Power suspension, were progressively integrated. Notable enhancements included a new twin-valve control (TVC) exhaust system and an ultra-rigid chassis for 1990 MX models, with 1991 models benefiting from further power increases and suspension refinements. Various trims like MX, DXC, EXC, and EGS were offered, indicating their specialized use. FAQ:
