Vehicle Information
Harley-Davidson Softail Motorcycle - Street (1984-2024)
The Harley-Davidson Softail line, launched in 1984 and extending through 2024, is iconic for its classic "hardtail" appearance with hidden rear suspension. Over the decades, it has evolved through several engine and chassis generations, while maintaining its distinctive style. Initially introduced with the 1340 cc Evolution engine in 1984, the Softail saw its first major generational shift in 2000 with the arrival of the 1450 cc Twin Cam 88B engine, specifically counter-balanced for its frame. This engine later evolved into the 96B (1584 cc) and 103B (1690 cc) versions. In 2018, the lineup underwent a complete redesign with a new, lighter chassis and the introduction of the Milwaukee-Eight 107 (1746 cc) and 114 (1868 cc) engines, also integrating models from the discontinued Dyna line. From 2020 onwards, the Milwaukee-Eight 117 (1923 cc) became more prevalent, highlighting continuous performance evolution. FAQ:

Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Engine Oil and Oil Filter | 1,600 km (initial), then every 8,000 km or 12 months | The first change is crucial after break-in. Subsequently, the regular interval applies, whichever comes first. |
| Drive Belt | Inspection every 8,000 km | Inspect after the initial 1,600 km, then every 8,000 km. Replacement is based on condition (wear, cracks, missing teeth), not a fixed interval. Can last up to 160,000 km with proper maintenance. |
| Spark Plugs | Every 48,000 km or 2 years | For newer models (approx. 2005 and later). Older models (pre-2005) may have a 16,000 km interval. Check your manual. |
| Air Filter | Inspection and service every 8,000 km or annually | Clean or replace as needed. Washable filters should be cleaned regularly. Replace if corroded or ineffective. Dusty conditions require more frequent service. |
| Coolant | Every 48,000 km | Applicable only to liquid-cooled Softail models (more common on recent models). |
