For 2014 (only) Polaris 900cc Ranger XP (non EBS) - Oversized tires
A simple, effective clutch kit to re-calibrate the 2014 Polaris 900cc RANGER XP (non EBS) Utility Vehicle for over sized tires.
The kit includes a new secondary clutch spring and new primary spring (actually two of them). The secondary spring is always used with one of the supplied primary springs. We have included two options for primary springs and either will function in this package. Some riders use a certain tire size for seasonal use or conditions, and not all riders like the same clutch characteristics. It is not that one spring or the other is better, it is personal preference. There is good detail on the characteristics in the "set up guide" that comes with the kit.
During testing of this vehicle we did test other calibrations using many different clutch tuning parts. There are many aspects to CVT tuning, and each vehicle is different. Some characteristics like "back shifting the belt to the correct ratio on the clutches as the vehicle comes under load " are very important to belt temperature and there are sometimes side effects to changing the shift pattern. While it is true that we sometimes use more parts in clutch kits for some other models, more parts is not always better. We test to confirm well balanced calibrations that do not have negative side effects.
For stock tires, the factory calibration is satisfactory for general use.
When adding any over sized or heavier tires, heavy loads, or soft terrain this kit can improve clutch efficiency and help restore the lost power. This simple, cost effective kit works very well for the application as described.
For 2015-18 Polaris 900cc Ranger XP
Primary spring replacement.
The 900 Ranger XP in this model year range has a well known abrupt engagement of the clutch. Slow speed crawling is awkward.
We have not had a test vehicle for extensive time to do thorough testing with different tires and terrains to develop any complete clutch kit. We have not tested larger tires and will not make assumptions or guesses at clutch calibration for that. However, we have experimented with the totally stock vehicle enough to know the stock primary spring is very aggressive. This simple primary spring change makes it a much smoother, and a more positive engagement of the belt each time you move.
The initial engagement load rate of the spring is lower with a similar to stock fully compressed load pressure. Test riders have all commented very positive on how much more smooth at low speeds when on and off the throttle.
At some point we hope to do more testing of this vehicle with different tires and situations, but for now, the Dalton Black/Pink primary spring very noticeable improvement on this application for a very inexpensive price.
